Summary

The Senior Technical Fellow Systems Engineering & Architecture will be the founding enterprise technical leader for Systems Engineering at Hollister and a trusted architectural advisor across our product, technology, and venture portfolios.

The Senior Technical Fellow Systems Engineering & Architecture will help ensure that the technologies we build, the products we launch, and the opportunities we explore evolve as a coherent technical enterprise rather than as isolated initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Establish and mature Systems Engineering. Define what excellent Systems Engineering means at Hollister across concept development, requirements, architecture, interfaces, risk, verification, human use, manufacturing, and product lifecycle.
• Demonstrate the discipline on priority work. Work hands-on with selected programs and technology efforts to frame system boundaries, expose hidden assumptions, structure requirements, integrate disciplines, and resolve the highest-leverage risks early.
• Shape enterprise and platform architecture. Develop and challenge product, platform, and reference architectures. Identify where shared interfaces, design patterns, technologies, test strategies, or data structures can create reuse and reduce long-term complexity.
• Own the enterprise technical-review practice. Establish and lead rigorous reviews for selected high-risk or high-consequence technical decisions. Frame the questions, assemble the right expertise, examine evidence and trade-offs, and issue clear recommendations. Accountable program and technology leaders retain decision and execution ownership.
• Integrate engineering disciplines. Bring materials, mechanics, software, sensing, fluidics, human factors, clinical, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and other perspectives together so the system is optimized as a whole rather than one discipline at a time.
• Lead selected system-level investigations. Help the company resolve complex, cross-disciplinary technical problems where normal program structures are not producing clarity. Create a fact-based path forward while strengthening the team's own problem-solving capability.
• Lead/Advise on emerging technologies and adjacent opportunities. In partnership with New Ventures, assess the systems, architectural, and scalability implications of selected technologies or opportunity concepts. Guide proofs of concept when they are the fastest way to answer a critical question; do not own a scouting or incubation portfolio
• Develop technical judgment across the enterprise. Mentor senior engineers and emerging systems practitioners, coach architecture thinking, and create exemplars that others can reuse. Your impact should increasingly compound through the people and practices you strengthen.
• Institutionalize learning. Capture architecture principles, patterns, trade-off logic, and lessons from difficult decisions so the organization becomes less dependent on individual memory and more capable with every program.

• Bachelor's degree required in Engineering or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred
• A record of architecting and commercializing sophisticated multidisciplinary product platforms across the full lifecycle.
• Deep experience in Systems Engineering, requirements, architecture, risk management, verification strategy, and integration across hardware, software, disposables, human use, and manufacturing.
• Credibility across functions with experience influencing engineering, quality, regulatory, clinical, operations, suppliers, and senior leadership in global or matrixed organizations.
• Evidence of technical multiplication through methods, design patterns, mentoring, communities of practice, or other mechanisms that raised the capability of teams beyond a single program.
• Sees the whole system while remaining capable of going deep enough to challenge specialists and understand the real constraint.
• Distinguishes decisive unknowns from normal development noise and knows what evidence is sufficient for the next decision.
• Balances rigor and speed without confusing either documentation or caution with good engineering.
• Recognizes patterns across platforms and knows when to standardize, when to preserve variation, and when an architecture must be rethought.
• Connects technology to enterprise consequence including user value, safety, manufacturability, scalability, lifecycle risk, cost, and future optionality.
