The purpose of this role is to lead the R&D Continence Care Technicians, to manage the R&D Laboratory and to co-ordinate all key activities therein. The role involves building and developing a strong team of technicians to carry out day-to-day lab work and assisting product development teams to co-ordinate product builds, testing, and sterilization. The role will be responsible for the overall management of the physical laboratory facility and all equipment and materials within it. The successful candidate should be a self-starter, performance driven, and enjoy working in a collaborative team environment

 

Responsibilities

  • Technician Management: Build and develop a strong team of technicians by attracting and developing talent, monitoring associate job performance, conducting regular performance reviews, and allocating workload appropriately.
  • Test Request System: Establish and maintain a system for processing test requests from R&D Engineers/Scientists on project teams. Co-ordinate the testing by delegating work to a team of technicians. Ensure good communication of status of test requests to the various stakeholders and identify any conflicts of priority and/or resource availability. 
  • Equipment Calibration/Maintenance:  Establish and maintain a system to track and schedule the required calibrations and preventative maintenance activities for all applicable equipment in the lab. Work with external vendors and internal stakeholders to establish contracts/agreements for calibration and maintenance of equipment. Conduct periodic audits of the calibration/maintenance system to ensure compliance to regulatory standards.  Point of contact in relation to internal / external audits in relation to same
  • Inventory of Materials: Establish and maintain an inventory management system to monitor the consumption of applicable materials (chemicals, foils, packs, competitive product, etc.). Arrange for materials to be obtained as needed through Purchase Orders, WIP tickets, etc.
  • Environmental Health & Safety: Ensure the lab is maintained to a high standard in compliance with Hollister EH&S policy and guidelines. Arrange for periodic audits to be carried out to demonstrate compliance within the Hollister policy.
  • Organization & Cleanliness: Ensure a high level of cleanliness and organization is maintained within the lab space and associated storage spaces through use of the 5S tools and identification of 5S champions for the various spaces.
  • Storage of Materials: Manage all communal R&D items in on-site and off-site storage by maintaining an inventory and management system for storage.
  • Customer Visits: Support site visits from customers and Hollister VIP’s by coordinating the various stations within the lab for each visit

 

Work Experience Requirements

  • Relevant experience working in a laboratory setting

 

  • Relevant experience in the medical device industry

 

  • People management experience preferable

 

Educational Requirements:

Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline preferable

  • Problem solving and analytical skills. Strong organizational skills. 
  • Effective Communicator, Good Relationship Builder, Performance driven.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate others
  • Strong MS Excel skills
