Summary:

The primary purpose of this controls position is to contribute to the profitability, continuity, and growth of Hollister Incorporated, by assisting in the continued development and support of the manufacturing processes in the Ballina plant.

 

The main focus of this position will be to work in the area of design, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of the electrical & control systems of both new & existing equipment in the plant. From concept to debugging PLC programs, researching solutions for process issues, provide technical support to production while maintaining high-quality standards that meet Medical Device manufacturing requirements.

 

This role provides an excellent opportunity for career development and to gain further experience within a highly automated and high volume regulated/medical device production process.

 

Key Role Responsibilities

 

  • This position will involve troubleshooting problems encountered in the daily operation of the equipment, implement corrective measures to machine issues and propose preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence.
  • This position involves working on machine improvement projects, both as a leader and as team member. The controls engineer will write and execute robust test protocols and will document changes by owning the software change control.
  • Keep software records and software back-ups on company shared drives.
  • Excellent communication liaising with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide training and mentoring to less experienced members of the team where appropriate.
  • This position will involve the mining of data from our automated equipment, both lagging and predictive, using software tools such as Ignition.
  • Safety/ Risk Assessments: position will be responsible for ensuring safety compliance of control hardware/software and supporting both conduction and timely closeout of risk assessments.
  • The position will involve the feedback of learnings and improvements on existing equipment to project teams working on new versions of our equipment.
  • This position will involve out of hours support when necessary.

 

Educational Requirements

  • Primary degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent.
  • Number of Overall Years Necessary: 4-7

 

 

Specialized Skills / Technical Knowledge required:

 

  • Solid understanding of PLC systems and programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider)
  • Industrial Networking of computers and machines
  • Pneumatic systems and schematics
  • Electrical drawings and schematics
  • Motion control, robotics, servo and vision systems
  • SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, especially Ignition Process Control
  • Electrical standards, regulations, and safety procedures
  • Basic electronics knowledge to understand design and aid troubleshooting.
  • Experience of machine and automation safety compliance and understanding of CE certification requirements
  • Designing and Execution of Robust Testing Protocols
  • Technical report out to both Technical and non-technical audience
