Summary

Leads day-to-day general accounting and statutory compliance activities for one or more legal entities or business units. Ensures timely and accurate period close, balance sheet integrity, and audit readiness. Partners with Finance and business leaders to strengthen internal controls, improve processes, and provide insights on operating expenses, cash flow, and working capital. Manages and develops an accounting team and coordinates across functions and external service providers to meet agreed service levels and corporate policies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach an accounting team; allocate work, set priorities, provide feedback, and ensure continuity/backup coverage.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close activities for assigned entities in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., local GAAP, US GAAP, IFRS as applicable); prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and supporting documentation to maintain a clear audit trail.
  • Oversee general ledger activities and relevant sub-ledgers/processes as applicable (e.g., AP, AR/credit collection, payroll accounting, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, cash management, purchase-to-pay, netting, and re-invoicing).
  • Ensure balance sheet accounts are reconciled, analyzed, and documented on a defined cadence; investigate and resolve reconciling items and drive timely corrective actions.
  • Coordinate statutory reporting deliverables and support tax compliance processes (e.g., VAT and other local taxes) with internal stakeholders and external advisors, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Prepare and present close status, key metrics, and management reporting to Finance leadership; highlight risks, issues, and recommendations.
  • Support internal and external audits; prepare audit files, respond to requests, and implement remediation actions.
  • Partner with FP&A and business leaders on OPEX planning activities as applicable (budget, forecast/projection, variance analysis and narratives).
  • Evaluate processes and internal controls; identify, recommend, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to standardize work and increase efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policies and procedures (e.g., approval frameworks, documentation retention, chart of accounts standards) and promote ethical, compliant business practices.

  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Communicate effectively via email, phone, and virtual platforms.

  • Maintain and analyze data using tools like Excel, SAP, or HRIS systems.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure data accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with company and legal standards.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Support audits and regulatory reporting as needed.

Education & Work Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8-12 years of related experience

Education & Work Preferences

  • Professional accounting qualification/certification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA) and/or advanced degree (e.g., MBA or Master’s in Accounting/Finance).
  • Experience in an international, shared services/center of excellence, distribution, or commercial environment.
  • Audit experience (including large audit firms) and experience supporting external/statutory audits.
  • ERP experience, preferably SAP; experience with standardized close tools and process documentation.
  • Experience with multiple reporting frameworks (e.g., US GAAP and/or IFRS) and exposure to local GAAP requirements.
  • Business-level English proficiency; additional language skills may be an advantage depending on stakeholder needs.
  • Progressive experience in general accounting, including month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience leading, supervising, or coordinating the work of others.
  • Working knowledge of core accounting principles and standards (GAAP) and familiarity with statutory reporting and tax compliance support.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel; ability to produce and interpret analyses and maintain robust documentation.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail.
