Job Summary:

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the role of a Band 6/7 Urology / Continence Care Nurse to champion catheter care alongside the Bristol Community Nursing Team.

Responsibilities:

The post holder will be highly motivated and experienced in continence care with an interest in redesigning catheter services in the community and delivering the best patient care. Completing the following tasks:

• Provide safe, effective and specialist nursing care and advice to patients and their relatives on all aspects of catheter care (including intermittent self-catheterisation)
• Assess, treat and review adults with continence / urology needs and/or bladder and catheter complications
• Implement a Community Catheter Assessment & Management Service within the designated locality; following the Hollister accredited pathway
• Teach and support other nursing and non-nursing staff and carers as required
• Foster good communication links and co-operation between GPs, Community Nurses, Ward Managers and other disciplines / departments
• Ensure timely and accurate entry of data into appropriate patient record keeping systems that meet the requirements of data protection and ensure that company liability is within current regulation
• As part of the Nursing Team annual rota, provide occasional Weekend/Bank Holiday phone support services to the Secure Start Service. This will be a maximum of 3 weekend days (Sat/Sun) and no more than 1 bank holiday in any 12 month period)
• Support the introduction of new products and provide opportunities for end users to review
• Participate in discussion and the operation of research programmes affecting patients and the service
• Work with Company Nurse Manager to set annual clinical objectives and track regularly to ensure timely completion

Person Specification:

• Qualified Nurse RGN (essential)
• Recognized Urology / Continence Care Qualification (desirable)
• Car driver essential (home visits will be required)
• Proven experience with an interest within urology / continence care
• Knowledge / ability to demonstrate a research-based holistic approach to client care
• Understanding of financial control / managing a service within budget
• Evidence of recent post registration training and development (desirable)
• Community experience (desirable)
