Summary:

The Senior Research Scientist will have responsibilities that contribute to routine testing needs, novel test method and test fixture development, and process improvements that support our quality program. In addition, this role will oversee scientific programs intended to assess either novel technologies or new materials for use in the existing portfolio. The diversity of work associated with this role will require an individual with strong, collaborative skills that can effectively communicate strategy and science to a broad audience including front-end innovation teams, engineering, operations, project management, quality and R&D management.

Assessing the feasibility of new technologies, developing new products and change control are central to this role; therefore, experience in these areas is highly valued. The candidate should have a record of accomplishment of effective collaboration with strong written and oral communication skills. An understanding of adhesive formulations as they relate to skin physiology is a major plus.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop scientific strategies and experimental approaches for programs as they apply to new material and technology development, as well as change control management of the existing ostomy portfolio.
  • Provide hands-on support for standard testing needs, novel test method and test fixture development, and process improvements that support our quality program.
  • Author technical documents required to summarize findings and interpret their relevance.
  • Communicate findings from research endeavors to key stakeholders throughout the organization (R&D, Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, etc.).
  • Other duties as needed or required.

 

Requirements:

  • Doctoral Degree and 5 years of experience or Master’s Degree and 8 years of experience will be required.
  • 5-8 years overall experience.
  • Expertise in Material / polymer science, chemical engineering or related field.
  • Broad formulation and lab-based testing experience.
  • Experience in applied problem solving.
  • Experience developing new products and technologies.
  • Change control.
  • Working knowledge of Good Documentation Practices and operating under a formal Quality system (test methods, specifications, etc.).
  • The ability to devise a research strategy, plan, execute and report findings from laboratory-based experiments.
  • Effectively summarize and communicate research findings in both written and verbal forms to stakeholders.
  • The ability to problem-solve.
  • The ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • The ability to travel, as needed, to other research and / or manufacturing facilities within Hollister as well as vendor locations.
  • Use of common Microsoft-based applications (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint).
