Summary:
Performs and leads test assignments on product and process development in support of Operations, Global Engineering, New Product Development (NPD), and Research and Development (R&D).  Prepares equipment, completes experiments, collects and logs data from instrumentation and observation for analysis. Works closely with department manager, engineers and other technicians to plan, coordinate and execute assigned projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Creates and tests prototypes to understand manufacturing processes and variability for new product features and materials through manual or semi-automated construction methods
  • Helps design or build new processes and tooling for prototyping or limited production
  • Prepares equipment and instrumentation
  • Performs product/ material testing – tensile, leak testing. Pressure testing, etc.
  • Coordinates and completes test assignments on experimental work
  • Performs measurements of products, tooling and fixturing using precision equipment (e.g. Smartscopes, Optical Comparitor, gages, and other test and measurement equipment.
  • Collects and logs data from test setup and publishes test results
  • Responsible for maintenance and utilization of lab tools and instruments
  • Maintains safe working conditions and methods in the lab area
  • Maintains an inventory of production and experimental test material
  • Prepares drawings, Bills of Material, and purchase requisitions for mechanical components and hardware
  • Performs other duties as assigned by department management
     

Essential Functions of the Role:

  • Prolonged sitting

  • Functional familiarity with standard PCs and MS Office

  • Lifting (up to 50 pounds)
     

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Number of Overall Years Necessary: 5-8
  • 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.
  • For senior level, full mastery of tasks and over 10 years of experience expected. 
     

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic electrical training desirable
  • Basic Design of Experiments training desirable
  • Journeyman machinist / tool & die maker desirable
  • Vocational school certificate in a technical field desirable
     

Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge:

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, sketches, and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Design work with CAD desirable. AutoCad / Inventor / Solidworks experience preferred
  • Experience operating basic machine shop equipment such as drill press, lathe, and milling machine
  • Knowledge of CNC equipment preferred
