Summary:
R&D Sustainability Manager will support Hollister’s sustainability program to achieve regulatory compliance, customer requirements, and corporate climate change goals. The role will be focused on product decarbonization and product stewardship with an emphasis on process and program implementation for both the ostomy and continence care business units.
This role will help ensure that sustainability factors are considered along a product’s entire lifecycle including identifying Scope 3 emission hotspots, advancing life cycle assessments and product carbon footprints; managing circular economy principles; assisting with extended producer responsibilities; product claims; product sustainability certifications; materials of concern and chemical management; and product and packaging waste reduction efforts.
This role will require extensive and close collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders.
This position can be located in Ballina Ireland or Kaunas Lithuania. This individual needs to live within a commutable distance to one of our offices in order to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week. 20% global travel is required.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Research and Development Team to establish an internal sustainability product design process that aligns with circular economy principles.
- Lead and implement life cycle assessment (LCA) and product carbon footprint (PCF) programs for our products, including implementation of an LCA software solution.
- Become a technical expert for life cycle assessments, product carbon footprints, chemical management, substances of concern, and extended producer responsibility schemes.
- Assist with extended producer responsibility and regulatory requirements for product and packaging waste reduction efforts
- Partner with the Research and Development Team to establish an internal sustainability product design process that aligns with circular economy principles.

- Become a technical expert for life cycle assessments, product carbon footprints, chemical management, substances of concern, and extended producer responsibility schemes.
- Assist with extended producer responsibility and regulatory requirements for product and packaging waste reduction efforts.
- Awareness of product regulatory compliance with environmental, health, safety, and sustainability requirements such as TSCA, GHS, CBAM, DOT, REACH, and other relevant regulations.
- Participate in screening of restricted substances and materials of concern program.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory and other requirements and provide recommendations to senior leadership on new or relevant regulations and changes.
- Assist with product claims and product stewardship certifications.
- Data management and analysis of information, including filing reports, fulfilling customer requests, preparing regular KPI reports, and supporting ESG data for sustainability reports.
- Share best practices across global locations
- Use project management skills to organize initiatives, prioritize projects, and execute against ESG goals.
- Represent Hollister on technical advisory boards (such as AdvaMed, MedTech, etc.)
- Keeps informed on technical and legal regulations in data management, renewable resources, innovation and circular principles, and environmental science.
Requirements:
- 8-12 years overall industry experience.
- 3-4 years minimum experience working within Sustainability is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field is required.
- The ideal candidate will have prior product stewardship experience, specifically in the area of circular economy principles.
- Knowledge and experience conducting LCA and PCFs required.
- Working knowledge of TSCA, GHS, CBAM, DOT, REACH, and other relevant regulations required.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles, including problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing chemical management programs.
- Working knowledge of CSRD, GRI, SBTi, OECD, TCFD, EcoVadis, and other ESG-related frameworks and requirements is highly preferred.
- Prior experience in the medical or other highly regulated industries is preferred.
Specialized skills/technical knowledge:
- Ability to conduct Life Cycle Assessments and Product Carbon Footprints is required
- Experience and/or familiar with ESG regulatory requirements
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software (spreadsheets, word processing), EHS/ESG management database systems, and other data analysis tools.
- Candidate must have strong project management skills
- Familiarity with product design for circularity and sustainability
